Refresh the Day
by M.J. Clark, APR
When I take my two sons to the
grocery store, it’s usually a struggle. They want everything
they see, and I don’t want to buy it all for them. And yet I
don’t want to be the frugal mom that never buys them
anything special either. They usually end up conning me into
several things each time, and I usually end up mad at myself
when I’m in line with a cart full of junky toys and candy that
they don’t need.
So this scenario began to play
out again at the grocery store about a month ago, after an
especially challenging day, and I had simply had it. I
explained to them that I was upset, they were getting NOTHING
this time, and I would not be taking them to the grocery store
with me ever again because I found their badgering
exasperating. I felt very upset with them, and the kids were
then very displeased with me too.

The
New Job Security: Doing What You Love
by Steven L. Anderson,
Ph.D., MBA One thing that makes me
feel sad when I think about today’s business environment is that
too many people do not enjoy going to work every day. I think
that people would be a lot happier and more productive if they
felt excited to get to their jobs in the morning. A lot of the
blame has to go to leadership in these organizations. But I
think that some of it comes from people not doing jobs they are
cut out to do.

How Good do You Want to Be?
By Darryl Graves,
guest contributor
A few years ago I was fulfilling my
interest in football by serving as an assistant varsity coach at
the local high school. One of my many jobs was conducting
conditioning drills and position drills in the sweltering August
heat. In the summer of my final season the head coach
introduced our slogan for the year; “How good do you want to
be?”
For two grueling weeks every time a player pulled up short of
the finish line in a sprint I asked him ‘how good do you want to
be?’
