Walking our Talk
By
Steven L. Anderson, Ph.D., MBA
On the weekend of May 3rd our staff participated in
the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. It was a
phenomenal experience for all of us. We made a commitment to
our readers to try to walk 50 miles. We met our goal. We
walked 201 laps around DeSales High School track, or 50.25
miles. We were sore, but happy.
Second, we originally set out to raise
$1000 for cancer research. We raised $2830! Wow! The response
from our clients was overwhelming. We had around 40 clients and
friends donate $2000. Our company chipped in the rest. I can
tell you that the people from the American Cancer Society were
very excited about our efforts. This is our first year of
participating. They could not believe how much money we
raised. I told them that we have so many generous and fabulous
clients and friends. It is really all of you that made this
happen. Thank you so much!
I
also want to say a note about cancer itself. I lost my mother
to cancer when I was fourteen.

“Know Fear”,
taken from “The
Call to Authenticity”
by Steven L. Anderson, Ph.D., MBA
“…I get so afraid
when I think about what my gifts are and what kind of an impact
I might have on others. What if I fail?” asked Louis. “When I
look at other leaders whom I respect, they seem so confident in
themselves. I can’t compare.”
“I recall once
hearing a story of a woman who was trapped in a sky scraper,”
replied Henry. “The floor underneath her was on fire. The
leader of the group realized they were going to have to run down
the stairs through the flames to survive. The woman who was
telling the story panicked and screamed, ‘We’re all going to
die!’ At that point, another woman went up to her and grabbed
her on both sides of her face. She looked into her eyes and
shouted, ‘Do it scared!’ This calmed the woman down enough so
that she and all of the others followed the leader to safety.
Louis, anyone who has ever undertaken any project that requires
all of their being has been afraid. Sometimes we just have to
‘do it scared’.”
